Synthesize Copper Aspirinate
Here, I will synthesize Copper Aspirinate.
First, measure out 3.6g of Acetylsalicylic Acid (C9H8O4), and add it to a beaker with 30mL of water. Then, add 1.69 grams of Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3). This will produce Sodium Acetylsalicylate (NaC9H7O4), Water, and Carbon Dioxide, which will bubble off. 2.5g of Copper Sulfate are then added. This will release even more carbon dioxide. Finally, the precipitate is filtered and dried. This is copper sulfate.
Here is the overall reaction:
C9H8O4 + NaHCO3 ⇒ NaC9H7O4 + H2O + CO2
4NaC9H7O4 + 2CuSO4 ⇒ Cu2(C9H7O4)4 + 2Na2SO4
